Chris Arnold is an entrepreneur who has founded more than 10 companies including Camp Leaders and Smaller Earth. Today Camp Leaders sends over 5,500 young people each year to work on cultural exchange programmes in the United States, and Smaller Earth is set to impact 20 million people by 2020. He is currently the CEO and founder of World Merit. Chris started World Merit to harness the potential of the upcoming generation and provide opportunities to young global citizens regardless of their background. The Merit 360 programme provides a chance for young people to actively tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goals and a chance to present their ideas to the United Nations.
He has worked closely with youth and has spoken in multiple youth based events. During World Merit Day, Chris hosted renowned speakers such as Malala Yousafzai, Sir Ken Robinson, Lord Michael Hastings, and Katie Piper to share their thoughts with youth. World Merit aspires to connect and develop youth from all around the world, making a truly global impact and helping people reach their full potential. Chris has become a sought after public speaker with the Estoril Conferences in Portugal, perhaps being the most prestigious event so far with Heads of State and Nobel Prize winners being on the same speaking roster.
One initiative that became increasingly important to Chris was Your Big Year. This was an official international event of Global Entrepreneurship Week that Chris had been asked to create by Enterprise UK and the Kauffman Foundation. With over 100,000 young people from almost every country competing in Your Big Year in its first two incarnations, its success led to two major outcomes. First Chris had the idea of bidding to bring the Global Entrepreneurship Congress to his hometown. He led a delegation from Liverpool to Washington DC and after a successful process the City became the first European destination for this prestigious event. Chris was a lead part of the steering group and delivery team and Liverpool’s Global Entrepreneurship Congress attracted local and global attendees, and key notes like Sir Richard Branson and Sir Terry Leahy.
