WORKSHOPS
There will be 10 different workshops at the Youth To Change Leadership Conference. Workshops will be held by representatives from the social entrepreneur circle, banking industry (Citi), financial services industry (EY), the startup world, the tech startup community and the wealth management industry. At these workshops, you will be able to explore leadership from various unique angles in a close-quarter environment, and gain invaluable networking opportunities with the workshop hosts.
What impacts on a leader’s responsibilities in a turbulent environment?
Economic stimulus is coming from small to medium sized businesses in the UK. On the macro front –oil prices are low, commodity prices erratic, share prices volatile; the Bear Market may have taken hold for a while; China commands attention – still an engine for world growth; Apple may be losing some of its influence; global warming is causing hazardous weather; threats from terrorists; cyber insecurity. How do you as a business leader respond to demoralising external forces, keep colleagues focused and spur achievement?
Body language and networking for business success
In today’s competitive, global business environment, just being good at your job is not enough. People like to work with those they know, like and trust, which means you need to ensue that the first impression you make is a positive one. This workshop will teach you how to use body language and communications skills to build rapport and connect with others paving the way for future exchanges.
Leadership Through Reflection
Leadership is often attributed great importance. It is said to be done by important women and men, in relation to important situations, whose meaning, in turn, is determined largely by those important individuals themselves. Leadership’s more everyday, but also relational nature, is often overlooked, or insufficiently explored in terms of its potential consequences. By engaging with insights from the field of anthropology, as well as ethnographic studies of organisations, this session will encourage us to reflect together and interactively explore leadership and leading differently, via confronting directly some notable ‘taken for granteds’ when it comes to the term.
Balloon Ventures: Leadership Driven by the People we Serve
“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” This quote by Peter Drucker is one of the most famous quotes about leadership. But what does “doing the right things” mean for social leaders? This workshop will take a close look at one of the major solutions to poverty: micro-finance. Together we will answer whether this is the ‘right’ way to solve poverty. Building on this, the workshop will demonstrate a methodology for ensuring that social entrepreneurs are focused on providing real solutions to problems. Participants will be introduced to key management tools: the Business Model Canvas, and the Theory of Change.
Leading High Impact and Sustainable Change across Local, National and Global Communities
This high energy, interactive session is split into two parts. Firstly, you will learn to identify real issues in your community and establish skills you can leverage to make an real impact. The second part will empower you with techniques and resources to make sure you have the biggest impact possible. Whether you want to work in a startup, a large corporate or a charity- this workshop will empower you on your journey to becoming a high impact social leader.
Know Your Strengths
To be able to lead others, you must be able to adapt to make the most of their strengths and capabilities. To be able to identify these strengths in others, you must first identify the strengths in yourself. The purpose of this workshop is to help participants identify their own personal strengths and how to use them to their advantage. They should be able to recognise strengths in others and how that influences their leadership style. Participants should be able to take away a greater understanding of themselves and how to make the most of their own and others’ strengths.
Are you ‘just a student’ or a change maker? Change Makers have to start somewhere: why not you, now?
In this highly interactive workshop Marcus, himself with a history of having made change, will challenge us to examine the facades used to hide real ambitions.
Schooling often leads young people to be fearful of their abilities; to deny themselves the opportunity of really exploring real possibilities. Marcus will help us examine assumptions made and discuss ways where we can override self imposed shackles. He says “Who will be the new Shakespeare? The creator of Facebook’s successor? The person who works out a way to enable all humankind to have access to clean water?"
That person could be you.
